Milestone Surgery is a Primary Health Care medical centre. The practice cares for about 11000 patients in the town of Farnborough, Hampshire, UK.  The name is taken from the old milestone at the entrance as shown above.

HISTORY OF THE PRACTICE

The practice originated in the early 1900s, when partners practised from their own homes. Some older patients may remember the names of doctors from years gone by... Dr Winter, Dr Croft Watts, Dr Lupton, Dr Secker Walker and of course Dr Hunter Dunn (father of Joan in Betjeman's poem).  In more recent years we have seen the retirement of well-respected partners such as Dr Tony Turner, Dr Lind Wright, Dr Arthur MacAdam and Dr John Holden.

The present purpose-built premises were opened in 1968, a design well ahead of its time and still admired by patients and staff alike. The large waiting area and all consulting rooms are on the ground floor.  The building was extended in the mid 1990s, incorporating extra facilities for counselling/psychology, conference room, management and office rooms, and staff room.

The six partners in the practice are : Dr Stephen Linton, Dr Neil Gibbons, Dr Lorraine Linton, Dr Glen Micklethwaite, Dr John de Verteuil and Dr Nick Hughes.

The practice has nearly 11000 patients from Farnborough, Cove and North Camp.  We provide primary care services for everyone including minor surgery, family planning, obstetric care and child health surveillance.  We run a Travel Clinic for those intending to go abroad.

We are a GP Training practice and as such train GP Registrars, one of whom will be attached to the practice for a year.

The Practice Manager is Miss Rachel Morgan.

A PERSONAL SERVICE FOR ALL PATIENTS

Many practices will claim that when you register with a doctor that is the doctor you will see.

This is often not the case, but we make sure that this does indeed happen unless his or her doctor is on holiday or out of hours.  You may think this restricts patients' choice but a better long-term relationship with your own doctor is much approved of by patients.  As a result we believe we can offer a higher standard of care, monitor prescribing more carefully and generally get to know families better.  It also enables the practice to plan appointments more easily - we have an excellent reputation for patients being seen as soon as they wish to be.

Should a patient wish to change doctors within the practice for any reason, then a request can be made through the Practice Manager.

Visitors to Farnborough from other parts of the UK or abroad (e.g during the Farnborough International Air Show) can be seen as patients if necessary.  If the patient is not from an EEC country then a private fee may be payable. Arrangements can be made either through reception or by telephone.
